Upgradable is seeking a Chief Operating Officer. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about changing themselves and the world. You will be the link between our strategic objectives and our day-to-day operational systems, policies, and procedures.

We’re an early stage startup based in Bali currently building our modern-day equivalent of Shackleton’s crew. We welcome remote team members from anywhere in the world, but Bali-based members are welcome to join us in a shared villa/office.

Why is this role important? 

As the Chief Operating Officer, you will have an incredibly influential role at a foundational level of the organization. You will be responsible for designing and implementing the systems that keep us running seamlessly across all areas. As we grow, you will need to continuously optimize operational processes and procedures to ensure we’re able to reach our strategic goals. 

What will you do?

  • Work with the executive team to set strategic goals and translate them into operational objectives and plans
  • Establish operational processes and policies to enhance workflows and productivity 
  • Work across all areas to drive alignment around strategic goals and objectives
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team to carry out our operations
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties for all legal matters 
  • Draft and solidify agreements, contracts, and other documents to ensure legal compliance
  • Develop and maintain a process of perpetual review, assessment, and improvement across all of our operations

  • Software: proficient in Google Apps, Microsoft suite, and other basic software tools
  • Discretion: able to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information

The ideal candidate should also have the following background:

  • Startups: substantial experience with early stage startups, especially around operations

What’s the application process like?

We have a multi-stage application process that’s essentially a mini-UP workshop designed to help us mutually determine fit and help you grow both personally and professionally. It is similar to what we do for our UP clients to help them set their career strategy. It has three phases that are all conducted virtually:

  1. The first is a general fit assessment over email and two short video calls
  2. The second is a paid two-day work trial and training
  3. The third is a paid two-month work trial and training

Your schedule permitting, we aim to complete the first two phases within two weeks. All in, the full process is a roughly 350 hour commitment across 2.5 months. We will do everything we can to respect your time and request you do the same for us.
