Redefining Wealth through Purpose: Lessons from “The New Millionaires Playbook”
I recently had the incredible opportunity to chat with Gordy Bal about his new book, “The New Millionaires Playbook“, which was just released yesterday, the 8th of August.
In our conversation, Gordy shares that this book is about redefining wealth. The new millionaire is not someone who plays the old game of accumulating money, but rather, is someone who plays the new game – the game of discovering your purpose, expanding your consciousness, positively impacting the world and thereby generating wealth and abundance.
One of my favorite ideas of his is to view the internal life as an investment – to think of thoughts as the most powerful currency we have to invest. The new millionaire, he describes, thinks about their thought capital. Where did I just invest the last million thoughts I had, and where am I going to invest the next million thoughts that are coming? We need to shift from the old paradigm of business and investment to a new paradigm that values the power of thoughts and internal dialogue as a form of currency.
We also touched on the importance of exploring the symbiotic relationship between humans and artificial intelligence, as well as the concept of entanglement in our interconnected world.
The new millionaire is also not one who is spiritually bankrupt but rather, has a sense of purpose in connecting to something bigger than oneself. Gordy, from his personal experience, shared the importance of spiritual awareness, which can be understood through the depth of your relationship with yourself, others, and the natural world around you.
If you’re an entrepreneur who has achieved material success but is searching for your purpose, or if you’re among the next generation of wealth inheritors and impact investors, this book is for you.
As a founder, “The New Millionaires Playbook” will also empower you to step up in taking care of your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being, while building a startup. Amidst the startup hustle and grind, remember the higher purpose you serve. The game changes when you’re actually seeing the manifestation of your own internal work show up in your startup.
Highlights of our Conversation are below:
About the New Millionaire
The new millionaire is somebody that actually lives from a sense of deeper purpose to positively impact a million lives, thereby generating wealth and abundance. The game now is not to try and make millions of dollars at any cost. The game is actually to discover your purpose, expand your consciousness and then use that as a way to positively impact the world and thereby be the new millionaire.
About Thought Capital
Gordy: Our thoughts are the most powerful currency we have to invest. How and where we’re investing our thoughts is actually more powerful than where and how we’re investing our dollars. The new millionaire is actually looking at their thought capital as well.
Nichol: I haven’t heard anyone describe the internal life as an investment and thought capital in just that way. Usually when people are talking about thought capital, they’re usually talking about what someone is saying in the world or to each other. But we spend so much time with ourselves, that it is powerful to also view that internal chatter as an investment allocation and how are you spending it.
About the Success of His Book
My 11-year-old son has been reading the book. He is the most critical person I’ve ever met and he will not pull punches. And he said to me the other day, “Daddy, this book is really good”. I thought, that right there is it. Success done. Nothing else matters.
About the TransTech Community
Nichol: For the people in the TransTech community, what should they know about this book? How is this book also for them?
Gordy: Many founders themselves are not supporting or supported in their mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. The startup hustle grind is hard. So it’s so crucial to remember to connect back to yourself in this process. Really slow down. Remember that you are serving a higher purpose. The startup ends up becoming a byproduct of the connection you have to yourself, the love you have for yourself and the deeper work you’re doing for yourself.
